Cecil B. DeMille’s The Ten Commandments

Hey George Lucas, Cecil B. DeMille is this much better than you…

In a day and age where Hollywood is churning out sequels and Butterball Turkeys with the frequency of Michelle Duggar; it is easy to forget that it was once a magical place where people’s wildest imagination could not come up with the wonders put to film.  I would argue that Cecil B. DeMille’s 1956 triumph “The Ten Commandments” was if not the last, the best example of the majesty that Hollywood is capable of.  It had a beautiful score, cast of thousands, and a story as old as time itself.  The costumes, sets, and scenery were woven together in a way that truly made “believers” out of some at that time.  It pushed the boundaries of special effects, yet did not rely on them as a gimmick…

I had the chance to view the 50th Anniversary Edition of this film and thought I would put keyboard to web to review the film from a new generation’s perspective.  As old as the film is, it will also be an opportunity to review the restoration and see how it holds up to the: modern day, digitally filmed, High Def features of today.

Look for my epic review soon…
